The End of the Subscribe to Pewdiepie Meme

The End of the Subscribe to Pewdiepie Meme

5/12/19

As you all know, Pewdiepie is a famous Youtuber who has nearly 100 million subcribers. He is a swedish Youtuber that uploads funny videos and videogame commentaries and has been the most subscribed Youtube channel for more than four years.  There was this meme that started last year when an Indian music company called T-series was about to pass Pewdiepie in subscriber counts. This is why he told his huge fan amount of fans to tell everyone what was happening and to tell everyone to subscribe to him. This worked well for him and he started to gain even more popular because of this.

However, recently there was a shooting in New Zealand with two mosques that were attacked. Right before the gunman was about to murder, he said, "Subscribe to Pewdiepie." Pewdiepie immediately  distanced himself from the shooting and was deeply sorry for the tragedy that occurred in New Zealand. He said, “I feel absolutely sickened having my name uttered by this person,” He also added, “My heart and thoughts go out to the victims, families and everyone affected by this tragedy.”

I think Pewdiepie did the right thing when he apologized, but I don't think it's his fault. I think it's entirely the gunman's fault. However, I agree that if I was Pewediepie, I would have done the same thing out of respect. It's because of these few people in the world who are insane and terrible that we have worldwide shootings and a meme that was ruined for all of Pewdiepie's fans that had a positive intent in mind.

  1. It's crazy how these famous youtubers and celebrities are mentioned by these dangerous people, which makes you wonder if there's something so dark about this famous person that encourages a gunman to shoot people. But I do agree with your opinion on this shooting being the gunmans fault as he was the one holding the gun and shooting people, not pewdiepie.
